Cathedral Peak & Lake
Cathedral Lake and Peak are off the beaten path. Though a popular hike, most tourists to Tioga Pass do not take the ~4-mile trek up to the first of 2 lakes below the peak. The peak itself can be seen from the pass road, but, to appreciate the impressive fractured granite spires that give the peak its name, you must really see it up close. This peak is popular to rock climbers but a host of animals thrive in the lake basins, including (but not limited to): American Black bear, Alpine chipmunks, Pine Marten, Mountain Lemming Mouse, Bald Eagle, Sierra Least Weasel, subalpine grasshopper, Golden-mantled ground squirrel, Pacific Fisher, and Mule Deer.
